Stone Barns is a Rockefeller family initiative that turned family owned land used for a cattle stud into a thought leading education center to raise awareness and understanding of how food is grown, the costs and realities of the global food supply chain.
ii. What outcomes/results did it achieve, against what measurable standard or target or goal (if you know)?
Stone Barns has emerged as a vital community resource. It is precious open space enjoyed by walkers and runners. The high tech green houses and farming practices for chickens, pigs, turkeys, lambs etc educate people young and old locally and from afar about sustainable agriculture. The Blue Hill at Stone Barns restaurant and coffee shop allow diners to enjoy farm fresh produce.
iii. Regardless of the results, how was the initiative received inside/outside the organization?
The number of enquiries Stone Barns receive for how to emulate what they have done testifies to the reputation the enterprise has established.

The enterprise is all about sustainability by raising awareness through education and the practice of sustainable agriculture and
acting sustainably e.g. in recycling, very evolved composting practices etc.
